Handmade Indian

Our Lac and Kashmiri beads are made by Indian Artisans working from home. These artists learned their skills from family members who have been creating Lac and Kashmiri products for generations. When you purchase our handmade Indian beads you offer these artists opportunity to sell their work, thereby providing them with a better standard of living. All our indian beads are handmade so each bead will be slightly different and can vary in size.

Lac is the hardened resin, made by the tiny lac insect. The widely known Indian lac insect is called a Kerria lac Kerr. Lac is natural resin which is hard, tough and brittle but softens with slow heating. Lac beads are handmade traditional Indian beads which are embellished with various other beads and crystals. Each individual bead is work of an art!

Kashmiri bead, often confused with lac bead due to its similar appearance, is made of polymer clay (generally marble powder) mixed with hardener and resin (semi-liquid adhesive) which is hand-decorated with various  embellishments. Each individual bead is unique!
